Tea Room Reviews:Lovejoy's Tearoom/Antique Shop is a delightful
tearoom with a welcoming atmosphere, a pleasant staff and an extensive
menu. Ferns and Flowers Tea Room is a surprisingly peaceful retreat with Victorian charm and a lovely gift shop. A special 70th Birthday Celebration for a dear aunt brought us to the
Fern's and Flowers Tea Room in Warwick, RI. The hustle and bustle of passer
by disappeared as soon as we stepped foot in the restored antique Cape.
We wandered through the beautifully decorated gift shop with unique and
tempting gifts ranging from home décor to women's clothing. My
particular favorite was a reversible chiffon skirt in lavender and green
with a coordinating cotton sweater and floppy hat. The high tea was a
delightful combination of sandwiches, filled mini cream puffs, mini quiches,
cookies and tarts. The atmosphere was inviting with lace curtains, bone
china and silver. The specially ordered birthday cake was particularly
delicious and beautiful covered with lemon icing and adorned with fresh
flowers. Reservations recommended. Imperial Tea Court is a wonderful traditional Chinese Tea house with gracious hosts, a serene atmosphere and perfectly brewed tea. A visit to the Imperial Tea Court proved to be an education in
tea and a memorable highlight during my recent visit to San Francisco.
After stepping through the doors of the Imperial Tea Court I was eager
to meet the respected author James Norwood Pratt for tea and to learn
about the Chinese tea tradition from two of his teachers Grace and Roy
Fong. I introduced myself, browsed around the shop seated myself at a
black lacquer table while waiting to taste tea. The atmosphere was warm
and comfortable and the hosts gracious. Once Mr. Pratt arrived I requested
to drink Dragon Well from a guywan cup. We munched on the dry leaf, watched
it swirl in the cup and savored the buttery taste before we went on to
try Oolong tea served gongfu style in a yixing pot. All I had read about
was now before me and provided a better understanding of the way. Two
hours passed quickly but before leaving I walked around the shop to discover
ceramic containers filled with tea, decorative yixing sets, teapots and
decorative bone china guywans which I had never seen before. The experience
was pleasurable, educational and one that shouldn't be missed if given
the opportunity. The menu includes Dragon Well, Tekuanyin, Junshan Yinzhen
and many other world-famous teas. Four Seasons Hotel - Noted as "the Best Tearoom in England" by the British Tea Council in 1999 the Four Seasons Hotel offers ambiance, service, and variety.
